MobileMe

MobileMe

Posted on August 3, 2008

This past week I decided to try out MobileMe, a new service from Apple to sync data between multiple computers: mail, bookmarks, passwords, calendars, etc. Not only did I decide to try it, but I went all in, forwarding all of my mail to the MobileMe server. Short of some initial tweaking to get everything set up just how I wanted it, everything has gone well. Syncing bookmarks, stored passwords, etc. is nice, but the best is the IMAP mail, where all of your mail is stored on the server and not the local machine. I have the same mail folders and messages at home and work (and on an iPhone if I had one!), something I have been wanting for some time. I was worried when I read about all of the initial problems they had (1,2,3) but I have run in to no problems so far. The service works best with Apple Mail and Safari, so I've had to switch back from years of using Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox.
