An Open Letter
Dear unknown college student:
you found the door of one of my computer classrooms unlocked on Friday night (10/31). When I first reviewed the security camera video, I thought you were going to steal some of the computer equipment. But now I know, after watching you for almost half an hour, you just wanted a private place to pick your nose, bite your fingernails, adjust your crotch, and rub your butt for some reason. While I appreciate you not stealing anything, in the future
my iPhone wish list
Inspired by Roaming Gecko's iPhone wish list I decided to make my own. I like it alot, but it's by no means perfect. In my previous one month review I already pointed out the coverage problem here in Blacksburg. To add to it, tonight our service dropped completely for a period of time.
While I sit here waiting for my laundry to dry, here's how I would change the iPhone:
weekend getaway
This past weekend I took off a couple days and made it a long weekend. I flew up to Buffalo on Friday afternoon to visit Kristen, returning late Monday night. Kristen got me started watching "Lost." I have managed to stay away from seeing any episodes so far - not because it's a bad show, just because I didn't want another distraction.
iPhone 3g - the first month
Today marks the end of my relationship with Verizon Wireless. I bought an iPhone 3g about a month ago and Verizon wouldn't let me port the number (explain to me how that's legal?). So, I kept my old number active and forwarded the calls to my new number for a month. But today, it's official, the old number is gone.
The lost art of "attention to detail"
Today at work I received a publication in my mail - a publication put out by my department, Information Technology, a reference guide for all of the resources we provide to the campus. Fifteen pages of all the different groups and the services they offer, how to contact them, etc. Featured prominently on the cover is a shot of one of my computer classrooms, filled with young students intently listening to their instructor and following along on their own computers.
iPhone, therefore iAm
I finally caved. I resisted buying an iPhone for so long. My father worked for Verizon, so I felt I had to contribute to his job security. Verizon has better coverage and faster data speeds where I live. Most of my friends use Verizon so minutes and texts were all free. My father recently retired, however, so one less reason to stay faithful. The final straw was when my poor old first-generation LG Chocolate got to the point of completely uselessness.
MobileMe
This past week I decided to try out MobileMe, a new service from Apple to sync data between multiple computers: mail, bookmarks, passwords, calendars, etc. Not only did I decide to try it, but I went all in, forwarding all of my mail to the MobileMe server. Short of some initial tweaking to get everything set up just how I wanted it, everything has gone well.
